How much insurance does our Guild have?

What does the insurance cover (and what is NOT covered) ?
Covered: damage to 3rd party property as a direct result of Guild activities.  (The Guild and its members are the "1st party", the insurance company is the "2nd party")
This covers major damage to your meeting place or injury to a visitor to a quilt show or meeting.
Also covered are lawsuits brought against Guild or Council officers.
Here is a description from our agent: " What's actually covered is largely  third party liability, for eg. someone attends the quilt show and while gawking at a pretty quilt, trips over his own feet and bangs his head on someone's sewing box, has to be treated for a concussion, and now he wants to sue because it was the Quilt Guild's fault that he banged his head - I'm not saying that it IS the Quilt Guild's fault that this person tripped over his own feet, it's just that he wants money, and the City wants to be additionally insured because this person is likely to go after them too for money, and the City wouldn't want to dip into their own insurance to pay this person's claim.

NOT Covered: This is NOT medical coverage for your members at meetings, workshops, shows, retreats.  This is NOT coverage for the quilts... but keep reading to get information on that kind of coverage....

How do we know if we are enrolled in the insurance program?
All currently enrolled member Guilds are listed on the first page of this web site, in the "Name of Guild" drop down box in alphabetical order.

How do we get enrolled in the insurance program ?
Your guild must first be a member of the SCCQG then enroll in the insurance program by paying per member premium (costs change, but as of 2006 were $40 membership plus $2.75 per member insurance premium)  Contact the SCCQG for most up to date fees).  This is done at renewal time on January 1st, or whenever your guild joins the SCCQG.  Insurance premium is not prorated and must be paid every year.   If your Guild is already a member of the SCCQG, but not participating in the insurance, contact the SCCQG Treasurer to sign up.  Your Council Representative or Guild President should have a listing of the telephone number of SCCQG Exec Board members.

How do I request a certificate?
Complete the online form then send in your check for the certificate to the SCCQG Treasurer.

How do I know if our guild needs a certificate?
Your Guild NEVER needs a certificate!  The only time you want to request one is when the owner of a facility you will be using asks for it.
You can get a copy of the SUMMARY OF INSURANCE for your guild files: CLICK HERE

What is the difference between "Proof of Insurance" and "Additionally Insured" ?
"Proof of Insurance" is a document from the Insurance Company stating that your Guild has insurance, the amount of the policy and the expiration dates of that policy.   Private facilities, like churches, homeowner rec rooms, camp grounds, usually request this certificate

"Additionally Insured" adds the owner of your facility to OUR insurance policy, so that if anything should happen, our insurance covers FIRST before their own insurance.  Government-owned facilities, like schools and park rec rooms,  ALWAYS request this certificate.

How to I reach the Guild Insurance Coordinator? (and who is she ??)
You can send an email to: pam.overton@ngc.com
be SURE to put the word QUILT in the subject so the mail isn't filtered as 'junk mail'

Pam Overton is a member of the South Bay Quilters Guild and a VOLUNTEER in this position, as Insurance Coordinator for the SCCQG.  She does not work for the Insurance Company.  She tries to spend MORE time quilting and less time doing paperwork!

Paula Fleischer was the previous VOLUNTEER in this position, and she is now spending more time quilting !   Please do not contact Paula with Guild Insurance questions :-)

Why doesn't the SUBMIT button work?

We have heard that some users get this message when they press the SUBMIT button: "Oops, can't find the web page you're looking for."

This is the result of some filtering by your web browser.  We know that AOL does not like our forms, so please use a non-filters browser, like Internet Explorer, and try again.

How do I turn a perfect inside corner in hand applique?
As you approach the corner,  clip into the corner, then turn under the fabric and applique to the corner.  When you get to the corner, take a couple of LONG stitches to secure the corner and avoid threads popping out.  Turn under the fabric on the next edge and continue    ;-)
